Ear wax (cerumen) is a natural, protective substance made by glands in the ear canal. It helps clean the ear, trap debris, and prevent infection by creating a slightly acidic environment.
Off course not everyone needs to have their ears examined regularly, as the ears naturally cleans itself without assistance. However, using earbuds, air pods, a hearing aid, or frequently utilizing cotton tips (Q tips), can all interfere with the natural process of ear cleaning itself.
